Kogi 2023: Why Dino Melaye is Not the Best Choice

By Mohammed Bello Doka

As the gubernatorial elections in Kogi State draw near, it is crucial for the people of the state to carefully analyze and conduct independent research on the candidates in order to make informed decisions. In light of recent revelations, it is important for electors to be aware of the dangers associated with certain candidates and avoid making choices based on ignorance.

One such candidate is Mr. Dino Melaye, who is running on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Melaye, a former House of Representatives member, senator, and spokesperson for the Atiku Okowa campaign council in the 2023 general elections, has a political background that deserves scrutiny.

During his time as a senator, Melaye was involved in various corruption scandals and questionable activities. He has been linked to infamous instances of theft and corruption that plagued Nigeria from 1999 to the present day. Melaye's controversial and rough persona, reminiscent of the notorious Al Capone of the Italian Mafia, encapsulates many of the issues that plague our political system.

One notable incident was Melaye's involvement in the privatisation of Nigeria's critical infrastructure, including NEPA (now PHCN) and Nitel. These public assets were sold to cronies at undervalued prices, resulting in significant financial losses for the country. It is alleged that Melaye and his co-conspirators pocketed substantial sums of money from these deals, rather than contributing to the public coffers.

Furthermore, Melaye was implicated in the infamous $60 billion power project scandal that occurred during the Obasanjo administration. Additionally, he was reportedly involved in the misappropriation of $16 billion security funds under the Dasuki gate, which unfolded during the lead-up to the 2015 general election.

It is worth noting that Melaye's wealth has grown exponentially over the past two decades, despite an apparent absence of a legitimate source of income. These issues raise concerns about his integrity and ability to govern the state effectively, as well as the potential impact on the people of Kogi.

Another factor to consider is the involvement of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. It is alleged that Atiku used his influence within the PDP to impose Melaye as the party's candidate for the 2023 elections. This move has raised suspicions about the party's motives and whether electing Melaye as Kogi State Governor would essentially grant Atiku and his associates access to the state treasury.

In light of these revelations and concerns, it is essential for the citizens of Kogi State to think wisely and vote wisely in the upcoming elections. It is incumbent upon each voter to delve deeper into the candidates' backgrounds, assess their capabilities, and consider the potential consequences of their choices. By making an informed decision, the people of Kogi can shape the future of their state for the better.

Think wisely, think Ododo, think APC , think Progress.
