In the fierce battlegrounds of Nigerian politics, there are two figures who have emerged as true titans - Bola Ahmed Tinubu, also known as Jagaban, and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, affectionately called POI. These two leaders, despite facing relentless attacks and opposition, have proven time and again that when God blesses someone, no one can curse them.
Jagaban, a seasoned political maestro, has been a force to reckon with since his departure from executive power in 2007. As the 2023 Presidential Election looms closer, he became the target of both internal and external forces within the All Progressives Congress (APC). Arrows and pebbles were hurled at him, aimed at dismantling his influence and hindering his rise to power once more.
However, rather than faltering under the weight of these assaults, Jagaban stood strong. With unparalleled resilience, he transformed the attacks into building blocks for his presidential campaign strategy, constructing a formidable arsenal to secure victory. Even members of his own party, driven by personal motives, tried to undermine his chances, jeopardizing their party's future. But Jagaban's courage, capacity, character, charisma, and compassion prevailed, silencing his detractors.
The rallying cry of his opponents has often been, "A godfather cannot be chief executive." Yet, Jagaban, the man of few words but immense action, only needed to utter one powerful phrase on the Abeokuta rocks - "Emilokan." In that moment, the very foundations of Nigerian politics trembled, clearing the path for his triumph.
Now, as the stage is set for the 2024 Edo State Gubernatorial Election, a familiar script begins to unfold. Once again, the arrows and pebbles are aimed at one man - Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, or POI. This rising star left power in 2007, much like Jagaban, and has since become a beacon of hope for the people of Edo State.
Political miscreants, driven by narrow-mindedness, have resorted to desperate measures to tarnish POI's impeccable image. Their goal is to halt his political progression both within Edo State and nationally. Yet, history has shown that their endeavors will be in vain, mirroring the failures they experienced with Jagaban.
Ironically, POI has not even expressed his intention to run in 2024. Nonetheless, the usual suspects, who conveniently awaken from their slumber every four years, have united to impede the political eziza (rising star) of Edo State. However, they will find themselves defeated, just as they did with Tinubu.
To those who have employed others or taken up employment to discredit POI, I bring a celestial message. Remember Jagaban's resounding victory over his detractors, for POI shall overcome all obstacles. With the Lord and the people standing firmly behind him, POI's triumph is inevitable.
May peace reign as we witness the unwavering rise of these influential leaders, shaping Nigerian politics with their indomitable spirits.
