Hope Uzodinma Draws Battle Line With House Of Reps Speaker

By Mohammed Bello Doka

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has expressed his discontent with Speaker Tajudeen Abbas over the appointment of opposition member, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, as the chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum (Downstream). Governor Uzodinma, who is seeking re-election for a second term, views this appointment as a threat to the All Progressives Congress (APC) within the state.

The governor believes that this decision by Speaker Abbas undermines his position and grants undue prominence and visibility to an opposition politician. Governor Uzodinma made an attempt to convey his concerns to Speaker Abbas, urging him to reconsider the appointment. However, he faced resistance and was unable to sway the speaker's decision.

The ongoing dispute between Speaker Abbas and Governor Uzodinma has caught the attention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It is expected that President Tinubu will intervene in the conflict once he returns from his overseas trip.

An anonymous source disclosed, "The conflict between Governor Hope Uzodinma and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas has been brought to the attention of the Presidency. The governor is dissatisfied with the speaker's decision to appoint Ugochinyere, a contentious politician, as the chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum (Downstream)."
