Nigerian Army's counter-insurgency operations continue to make significant strides against terrorist groups
In a resolute effort to dismantle the remnants of Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) in Borno and nearby states, the troops of the 144 Battalion have achieved a remarkable feat by rescuing 25 hostages held captive by the extremist group. This successful operation, conducted in conjunction with the Hybrid Force, took place in the Gobara village of the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State on Saturday, August 26th, 2023. Among the liberated individuals were 6 women and 8 children who had endured the horrors of captivity.
On Sunday, August 27th, 2023, troops from the 82 Task Force Battalion, working in cooperation with the Hybrid Force, launched a similar rescue operation in the Gava Village of the Gwoza Local Government Area. Through their unwavering determination, they successfully freed 11 civilians who had been held against their will by the Boko Haram insurgents. Currently, all the rescued victims are securely in the custody of the troops, undergoing necessary profiling to ensure their well-being.
Additionally, in a separate development on the same day, seven members of a BHT family chose to abandon their allegiance and surrender themselves to the troops of the 81 Division Task Force Battalion. This commendable act occurred in the Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State and involved three adults and four children. The act of surrender not only demonstrates the dwindling strength and morale of the terrorist group but also showcases the effectiveness of ongoing military operations against them.
The dedication and bravery displayed by the troops extended beyond Borno State. In an anti-banditry operation conducted on August 27th, 2023, in Kaduna State, the soldiers of the 2 Battalion, Nigerian Army, took swift action based on actionable intelligence. Their timely intervention led to the neutralization of one criminal and the liberation of four kidnapped victims in Kwana Shehu Village within the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area. The rescued victims have since been joyously reunited with their families, bringing hope and relief to their loved ones.
These extraordinary efforts by the Nigerian Army in countering insurgency and terrorism deserve recognition, as they continue to secure the lives and freedom of both civilians and captives alike. Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, emphasized the importance of public support in providing credible information that aids ongoing operations across the country. Such cooperation is vital in the constant battle against terrorist organizations, ensuring a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.
As the nation stands united against the threats posed by extremist groups, the Nigerian Army's unwavering commitment to protecting its citizens serves as a beacon of hope and an inspiration for all.
