ABUJA - In a powerful and motivating address, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu urged his new cabinet members to rise above titles and office politics and focus on the task at hand - transforming the Nigerian economy for the benefit of its citizens. Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Monday, President Tinubu emphasized that the hopes and aspirations of over 200 million Nigerians depend on their commitment and dedication.
The historic event took place at the prestigious Council Chambers of the State House in Abuja, where President Tinubu made it clear that underperforming would not be tolerated. He assured the ministers that he would provide strong and focused leadership to prevent any failures from hindering the progress of the nation.
"We must reimagine how we manage our finances and resources, and ensure that our economy works for all Nigerians. Though some skeptics might say it is impossible, your duty as public servants is to make the impossible possible," the President remarked, exuding confidence.
President Tinubu emphasized that the appointment of ministers was not just a temporary fix but rather an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the country. As a new government with a fresh approach and a clear mandate, the President called on his carefully selected team to deliver for Nigeria without any complaints or excuses.
With unwavering determination, President Tinubu stated, "We have the talent, the intellectual capacity needed to turn this nation around. We will ensure that Nigeria is on the right path towards success, benefiting more than 200 million citizens who rely on us."
Highlighting the importance of experience, skills, intelligence, and networking, the President encouraged his cabinet members to navigate the challenging times through innovative thinking. Failure, he declared, would have no place in his administration.
"The stakes are high, and we face tough times. We must work hard to create a thriving economy that serves the Nigerian people. Unemployment remains unacceptably high, and climate change poses threats. To overcome these challenges, you have been chosen to give your utmost best. Our policies will reform the economy, promote inclusive growth, and strengthen security for peace and prosperity. Without security, investments cannot thrive," President Tinubu emphasized.
Acknowledging the immense responsibility placed upon him, the President humbly stated that he is but one man and that the innovative thinking of his cabinet members would shape his leadership. He assured them of his willingness to listen, cooperate, and even accept correction, as he recognized that only God is perfect.
"The future of our great nation lies in your capable hands. Since your inauguration, you have become servants of the people, committed to serving all Nigerians, at all times," concluded President Tinubu.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, released the statement on August 28, 2023. The President's resolute words set a tone of determination and hope for Nigeria's path forward, while reinforcing the importance of collaboration and accountability among government officials.
