In a ceremony held at the party's conference hall, the national chairman of the APC, H.E Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, officially swore in Duro Meseko and six others into vacant positions in the APC national working committee.
Among the newly elected officials was Duro Meseko, who took on the role of Deputy National Publicity Secretary. The appointments were made to fill the positions left vacant by the departure of previous members of the National Working Committee, as well as other vacant zonal offices within the party. The vacancies were created due to the unfortunate passing of a member and the nomination and confirmation of other members as ministers by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Other individuals sworn in during the ceremony included Mary Alile Idele from Edo State, who replaced Betta Edu as the National Women Leader. Garba Datti Muhammad also joined the committee, taking the place of Mallam Salihu Lukman as the National Vice Chairman for North West. The new National Legal Adviser, Prof. AbdulKarim Abubakar Kana, hails from Nasarawa State, while Donatus Nwankpa, from Abia State, assumed his role as the National Welfare Secretary. Hon. Isiyaka Musa, from Kogi State, was also sworn in as the Zonal Organising Secretary for North Central.
During the ceremony, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje congratulated the new members and reminded them to uphold the principles and values of the party. He emphasized that their appointments were a result of their demonstrated competence and the due process followed by relevant stakeholders in their selection.
"It is important to note that although there are other competent individuals, we can only appoint one person to each position at a time," Ganduje explained.
Looking towards the future, Ganduje outlined plans for regular weekly meetings of the national working committee, which would take place every Wednesday. He stressed the importance of a strong and active party, not just during election periods, but throughout the year. He encouraged the new officials to ensure functional party offices at all levels, from the ward to the national level, as this would strengthen the institution and promote effective governance.
With the swearing-in ceremony now complete, the new members are ready to take on their respective roles within the party and contribute to the growth and success of the APC.
