The Oba after his birthday Thanksgiving Service at the Tinubu Methodist Cathedral returned to his Iga Idunganran palace and proceeded to the second item of his birthday celebration which was the installation of the then Governor of Lagos state Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Asiwaju of Lagos in succession to the late holder of the title, late Alhaji Wahab Balogun.
With other frontline traditional rulers in attendance, Oba Oyekan and his guests watched with rapt attention as his chiefs performed the formal traditional ceremony of the installation.
After his formal installation as the Asiwaju of Lagos and his wife as the Yeye Asiwaju of Lagos, Oba Adeyinka Oyekan 11 prior to his handing over the traditional staff of office to the Governor offered extensive traditional prayers for him.
As if making a prophesy, Oba Oyekan 11, prayed for the new Asiwaju of Lagos that, "You have been selected and capped as the new Asiwaju of Lagos after watching your
impressive performances since you became the Governor of Lagos state. I, my chiefs and the Lagos State Traditional Council of Obas and Chiefs are all impressed by your performances and I pray that you will in future become not only the Asiwaju of Lagos but also Asiwaju of Nigeria.
Today, exactly twenty two years after his installation as Asiwaju of Lagos, the state is in jubilant mood of the Eid-El-Kabir festival and the first official visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu the Asiwaju of Lagos and by virtue of his position as Nigeria's new President, the Asiwaju (leader) of Nigeria.
Oba Adeyinka Oyekan's prophesy has come to pass and we pray that may his royal and gentle soul rest in perfect peace Adeyinka Oyekan 11, Ayinde omo Kushanu, omo Dosunmu Akamo Ekun, Omo Afinju w'oja, a rin gbendeke, Obun w'oja party sio sio, obun sio sio ni yio rerun afinju wole. We equally pray that may President Bola Ahmed Tinubu succeed and may his Presidency usher in the much sought after peace,progress and an impressive economic recovery for our great country Nigeria to the glory, pride and progressive wellbeing of Nigeria and all its citizens.May his tenure bring about the elusive unity and concord in the country .
