Kamala Harris,Guterres, Back Nigeria In Restoring Democracy In Niger

During these calls, both leaders expressed strong support for Nigeria's endeavors towards restoring constitutional order in the Republic of Niger.

President Tinubu, who is also the Chairman of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, was commended by the US Vice President and the UN Secretary-General for spearheading peace efforts in the country. The article highlights the attempted coup in Niger on July 26, 2023, where soldiers from the Presidential Guard sought to depose President Mohamed Bazoum.

Harris praised the reform initiatives undertaken by the Nigerian government during her conversation with President Tinubu. Regarding climate change, President Tinubu assured that Nigeria remained focused on alternate energy. He pleaded for developed nations to understand the challenges faced by developing countries, including Africa, in addressing this issue.

The discussions between the two leaders also touched on strengthening bilateral relations, defending democracy in West Africa and The Sahel region, digital inclusion, and the commitment of the UN to support Tinubu's peace efforts in Niger.
