As part of his working trip to Dagestan, Vladimir Putin visited the Naryn-Kala Citadel architectural and archaeological complex and the Derbent Dzhuma Mosque, which have the status of federal monuments and UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
On the territory of the historical and cultural site of Naryn-Kala, the head of state got acquainted with the exhibition of folk crafts. Vladimir Putin was informed about the development of tourism in Dagestan and the prospects for expanding the corresponding infrastructure. Then the President visited the Derbent Juma Mosque.
The head of state was accompanied by the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President in the North Caucasus Federal District Yuri Chaika, Head of the Republic of Dagestan Sergei Melikov and Senator from the Republic of Dagestan Suleiman Kerimov.
The Naryn-Kala citadel was built in the 6th century and is part of the ancient defensive system of Derbent. The Juma Mosque is considered one of the oldest in the world and the oldest in Russia. All the main buildings of the complex built in the 8th century have survived to this day: the main building of the cathedral mosque, madrasah and residential buildings.
