Marked For Death: Court Sentenced Sheikh Abduljabbar to Death By Hanging.

An upper Sharia court sitting in Kano has sentenced the controversial Muslim scholar Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara to death by hanging for the offence of blasphemy against the holy prophet SAW.

Delivering the judgement after about two hours court session the Honorable Judge  Ibrahim Sarki Yola said he's convinced that the prosecution council have proven the case of blasphemy against Abduljabbar beyond reasonable doubt thus convicting the scholar for the said offence and sentencing him to death by hanging.

The Honorable judge also ordered the Kano state government to seize the two mosques belonging to the controversial scholar and also warn the media from spreading his teaching and using his pictures.

Before the sentence the Sheikh was quoted by daily trust newspapers to have denied his defence lawyers prayers for leniency before the judge. He was quoted to have said.

“My lord, after I heard how you twisted all my evidence, you turned around all my submissions upside down, you have assigned words to me that I have never uttered.
He continued

“Deliver your judgement, and I am not asking for leniency at all. I want all my followers to know that I will die a hero and I don’t want you (the Judge) Ibrahim Sarki Yola to do me any favour or grant me leniency. This is my last word. Assalamu Alaikum.”

The judge was said to have called for a 20 minutes recess before delivering the sentence. The Court also provide a  thirty days appeal window where the accused can appeal his sentencing to a court of higher jurisdiction.

It can be recalled that the scholar was arrested and charged for blasphemy sometimes in July 2021 by that Kano state government.

Some unconfirmed reports in the media has quoted the Kano state governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as saying he will not hesitate to sign the death sentence as soon as the file get to his desk
